What breakfast at Merport Bistro is like
Merport Bistro is a relaxed, sit-down restaurant. The kitchen blends Bahamian favourites with French inspired cooking, so the breakfast menu is wider than you might expect from a weekday spot. Guests often mention the friendly service, the daily specials and the pastries made in house, and you can read their words on our reviews page.
The menu is easiest to understand if you split it into a few groups.
Pancakes, French toast and waffles
If you want something sweet, start here. Every pancake order comes with two buttermilk pancakes. The House Buttermilk Pancakes are the simple version, served with whipped cream. The Blueberry Swirl Pancakes add blueberry compote, and the Bananas Foster Pancakes come with Myers rum caramel, bananas and whipped cream.
The Cinnamon Swirl French Toast XL is infused with vanilla and cinnamon, and The Golden Belgium is a light, crispy waffle. If you cannot choose, The Breakfast Platter lets you pick a waffle, pancakes or French toast and adds two eggs any style and bacon.
Omelets and eggs Benedict
The Omelet Station is built for people who want eggs done properly. Every omelet comes with Bistro potatoes.
- Garden Fresh Omelet: mushrooms, spinach, onions, bell peppers and Swiss cheese
- Chicken Fajita Omelet: grilled chicken, fajita onions and peppers, tomatoes and a three cheese blend
- Butchers Omelet: ham, applewood smoked bacon, sausage, Swiss cheese, onions and bell peppers
- The Everything Omelet: a four egg omelet with all of the above and more
For Benedict fans, the Classic Benny has poached eggs on an English muffin with Canadian bacon and hollandaise. The Smoked Salmon Benny swaps in smoked salmon, red onions and capers. Both come with Bistro potatoes.
Southern skillet and heartier plates
When you need a bigger breakfast, look at the Southern Skillet section. The Country Style Shrimp & Grits is Cajun shrimp tossed with bell peppers, bacon bits and onions over homestyle cheese grits. The Breakfast Bowl layers scrambled eggs, sautéed onions and peppers, bacon, Bistro potatoes and a three cheese blend. For a classic, there is Steak & Eggs with an 8 oz NY strip, two eggs and Bistro potatoes.
Traditional Bahamian breakfast
The Wake Up Bahamas section is where you will find the most local plates: native stew conch, stew fish, chicken souse and tuna and grits. Each one is served with your choice of yellow grits or Johnny cake. If any of those names are new to you, our guide to traditional Bahamian breakfast explains what each dish is and how to order it.
Lighter options
Not every morning needs a big plate. The Breakfast Sandwich or Wrap comes on wheat, white or a flour tortilla with bacon, scrambled eggs, Swiss cheese and tomatoes. The Avocado Toast is whole wheat toast with grape tomatoes, pesto, avocado and feta. You can also build your own plate from the sides list, which includes eggs, grits, toast, bacon, turkey bacon and avocado.
Coffee and something to sip
There is a coffee station for the morning rush, and the drink menu also covers fresh lemonades, juices and mimosas if you want a slower start.
How to choose
If you are still deciding, this shortcut helps:
- Sweet tooth: Bananas Foster Pancakes
- Savoury and classic: a Classic Benny or one of the omelets
- Big appetite: Steak & Eggs or The Breakfast Platter
- Something local: Native Stew Conch with Grits
- Keeping it light: Avocado Toast
